“I was thinking about the girl, you already know how that goes. Thinking about the last time I saw her and how completely fucked up our interaction was.”
Do you regret what happened?
“I don’t regret anything really
…
The pause in my response could have conveyed some deep rooted denial. But honestly, how long does it really take to get over someone? Perhaps I invested to much emotionally in her, perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be. Both extremes would still take some unquantified amount of time to process.”
Hmmm, Have you met anyone new or made the attempt to connect with someone else?
“In my opinion this “trending” online hook-up and dating culture has somewhat depleted a solid foundation for a long lasting relationship. Everything now seems more like instant gratification long term consequences. For example a pretty girl approaches me at work we make conversation. After working I randomly see her again - we speak building a foundation for a relationship. Now let’s say this doesn’t go further than friendship, it’s still more beneficial than friends on facebook. If for some complex twist of fate we continue to see each other, casual talk turns into intimacy. In my opinion that again is more beneficial than hooking up with someone online. So in short, No I haven’t met anyone new. I have been making the attempt to connect.”
Do you believe you will make a new connection and be able to move on?
“Sometimes I think it will never happen,
other times
…
It feels close.
Once there was this guy who went to a decent high school, running back, took the team to state finals and won. His high school sweetheart was by his side all up until junior year of college. They broke up, she moved back home and he really went through a faze of losing control of everything else around him. Almost as though he was now living on a foundation of quicksand. His game began to suffer along with his grades. After a certain game on a muddy ass rainy day, he rushed for 289 yards scoring 2 touchdowns but the team still lost. Later that night he decided to get his mind off everything and go out to a movie.”
He went to the movie alone?
“Yea, just to relax his mind and more or less get away from the day. While buying his ticket there’s this gorgeous girl making popcorn for customers.
She looks at him and he is immediately captivated by this girl, I mean out of no where he finds himself compelled to speak to her. I’m not sure what they talked about that’s besides the point. After the movie while making his exit he again see’s her at the counter, she waves, he then politely gave her his number and respectfully asked for her to call him.”
Did she call him?
“The next day she called him and they talked for hours. He felt like it was high school all over again. They talked about all kinds of things and this went on for a couple days. After a couple dates things progressed towards relationship status. That guy is now married to that girl and playing in the NFL. All because of some complex twist of fate, he met her when he felt as though he was losing everything.”
Love is a beautiful thing, I suppose you’ll never know when it will find you?
